My Sister's Keeper: The Power of Sisterhood

The Sista-2-Sista Youth Summit (“S2S”) is a one-day empowerment summit connecting 125 high school girls of Pan-African descent from underserved areas across NYC with women making a difference in the areas of technology, media, law, health and wellness, medicine, entertainment, education, personal growth and development and other fields. The girls are engaged in workshops, live entertainment, and reflective activities. Utilizing a 3 step-process of self-awareness, self-appreciation, and self-actualization the workshops and activities equip participants with fundamental tools to make well-informed decisions today and in the future. S2S is held every March during Women’s History Month.

Since 2011 the Gye Nyame Empowerment Project, (“GNEP”) has offered a $1,000 book scholarships for one eligible high school senior attending a four-year college and committed to being a leader within her community.  

The Woman-2-Woman Conference (“W2W”) is a series of 60-min workshops specifically for female parents, guardians, and chaperones of S2S participants and runs concurrently to S2S. The workshops address the same issues discussed in S2S workshops and they serve as training for parents, guardians and chaperones to continue the dialogue with the young women beyond S2S.

Media Release: As an adult, upon completing the registration form, you will be asked to consent to the taking of photographs, movies or videotapes by the Gye Nyame Empowerment Project (GNEP).  And grant to GNEP the right to edit, use and reuse said products for non-profit purposes.  In addition, you are asked to release GNEP, its agents and employees from all claims, demands, and liabilities whatsoever in connection with the above. If you choose to refrain from consent, you are advised to participate in GNEP programming at a later date.

Teens will have to have a Media Release Form signed by a parent and submitted on the day of the event as part of their admission into the Summit.

 Waiting to Exhale

In this workshop, participants use a real-life experience to unravel their story around forgiveness. They are charged with recognizing patterns that disable them from forgiving others, and with recognizing that they hold the power to be positive agents for change in their lives regardless of past circumstances. Participants will contribute to the 2014 Forgiveness Dress that will be gifted to an award recipient.

Shine Bright Like a Diamond

This workshop challenges the young women to define their inner light, identify obstacles and barriers that prevent them from shining, and identify the one thing that inevitably unlocks their inner light.

The Power of Sisterhood

This interactive and engaging workshop provides the young women with an opportunity to operate as their sisters’ keeper by supporting one another with accomplishing a variety of empowering actions. This workshop ignites sisterhood and support.
